Two Cofan tribal elders walk along the Augarico River in Cofan Dureno, one of the tribal villages gravely affected by the oil drilling during the time when Texaco operated in the region. The indigenous people numbered in the tens of thousands before early contact with whites, who came due to oil discovery, decimated them. They still practice a traditional lifestyle and are fighting to buy back their ancestral land they lost.
