Juan Gabriel Roales Cokincha, 18, is held by his mother Margarita Cokincha in their home located in the town of Taracoa. Juan suffers from Meningitis, a bacterial infection of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. He was born with the condition said his mother Margarita, who believes it’s due to her direct contact and intake of contaminated water from Laguna Taracoa near their home. She says all her children suffer from heart problems and she has Juan taking Tegretol, a medication that helps prevent convulsions. Bacterial Meningitis infections are extremely serious, and may result in death or brain damage, even if treated.
