A crude oil waste pit, near oil well 61, left behind from Texaco. The pit, located in Sushufindi, has been uncovered and exposed for more then 38 years. It’s said the contaminated area is three times the size of Manhattan and involves over 1000 open toxic pits the company abandoned after drilling 350 oil wells. Due to the peoples close proximity to the pits, many problems arise, especially with livestock getting trapped in pits of dying due to consumption of the crude.
