"Venice Carneval"
Masks have always played a significant role during the carnival in Venice. Some masks cover the entire face, others just the upper half of the face, making it easier for the wearer to eat, drink, or engage in romantic encounters. Today most of the masks are created using gesso, gold leaf. They are hand-painted and are often decorated with natural feathers and various gems.
