A rhino charging the photographer's jeep. A park guard that was riding with in the jeep fired a warning shot, but his rifle jammed. The rhino veered off at the last minute. A rhino can run up to 30 mph (48 kph) over short distances—and weigh in at up to 6,600 lbs. (3,000 kgs.) Because the rhinos in Kaziranga are packed into this area in abnormally high densities—with nowhere else to go—they are unusually aggressive and extremely dangerous.
