Khin Mya Mya (left) and fellow patient, Hla Hla Win, comfort each other at a shelter run by a monastery in Yangon. 28-year-old Khin Mya Mya contracted the virus after her husband left her with their two children, driving her to work as a sex worker. As the disease took over her body Khin Mya Mya ended up living in a railway station begging for food from passersby. A monk found her there and brought her to the shelter.

Also a TB-patient she needs to fight that disease before she can start treatment for HIV. But she is having a hard time eating enough. Her diet mostly consists of pastry and sweet tea and she is losing strength. She died a a few months later – before she could even start her HIV-treatment.
