"A CRY FOR THE TIGER"

After trapping and sedating a female tiger at Hua Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, Thai tiger team biologists measure, weigh, and fit the cat with a satellite collar to track her movements. Thom Simcharoen, left, is running the first-ever study to identify the home range and movements of female tigers with cubs. After tranquilizing this cat, they realized that she was pregnant: Here, Saksit Simcharoen puts his ear to her belly, listening for fetal heartbeats.
