Maremoto: Chile's Tragic Tsunami and Quake
Constitucion was also the scene of miraculous stories of survival. Daniella Calderon, 17, scaled a tree on Isla Cancun, a popular camping spot in the Rio Maule next to Constitucion, to escape the massive waves that swept in from the sea. Calderon, four months pregnant, said she was only thinking of her baby as she watched the waves come through. 3 members of her family were killed by the tsunami.
