Corcoran, who has made a 20-year-long career in the Army, sustained a significant spinal injury and is receiving treatment at Walter Reed hospital. The 8th FST is the Army's busiest trauma II level surgical center, providing care for US troops, the Afghan National Army, and local Nationals in Eastern Afghanistan.
