"Flint Water Crisis 01"

L to R: Antonio Abram and his sisters, Julie Abram and India Abram collect their daily allowance of bottled water from Firehouse #3 in Flint, Michigan on January 27, 2016. Five of Flint’s fire stations served as bottled-water dispensaries, the only way many people could get potable water.

The water contamination crisis in Flint, Michigan, forced the city's residents to dramatically change how they lived. Everyday tasks like bathing, toothbrushing, and cooking became difficult chores as the threat of lead poisoning and other maladies loomed in the tap water. An estimated 12,000 children were exposed to lead-contaminated water in Flint and possibly Legionnaires' disease.
