A dyke breaks in the Ghoramara Island, the sea water flood in the rice plantations, now unusable by saline water. The island used to be 20 sq. km, but in the last twenty years or less it has been reduced to a mere 5 sq. km. Within the space of the last 25 years, 6000 families have been rendered homeless with 4 Sundarban islands sinking into the sea. As ominous predictions by climate change experts begin to unfold, the seas around the islands in the Bay of Bengal that support the world's largest mangrove ecosystem are rising faster than anywhere else on Earth, placing the lives and livelihoods of those who live on the Sundarban Islands at risk.
