"DALE OSTRANDER RESCUED"

Surf rescue swimmer Doug Knutzen yells for EMT's as he carries 12-year-old Dale Ostrander to the shore of the Cranberry Rd. beach approach near Long Beach, Wa. on Aug. 5 after rescue swimmers Eddie Mendez (at left) and Will Green (not pictured) found him floating in the surf. The boy had not been visible in the water for more than 15 minutes before being found. Ostrander would not regain vitals until reaching the hospital more than 10 minutes later.

Three days after drowning, Ostrander awoke from a coma and spoke to his parents and doctors. Since then he has continued to rehabilitate from his near-death experience.
