"By the Horns"
'I'm trying to train
them to be oxen,' says Travis as he pulls two steers with his bare hands
across a field on the family's 100 acre property. The land originally
belonged to Linda's family but was eventually sold when Linda was nine to the
local coal company to be used for strip mining. Linda bought back the land
when she was 18 and seven years later she moved onto the land with her
husband Ken. According to the U.S. Census of Agriculture, Ohio's farmland
diminished from about 21 million acres in 1950 to 14 million in 2002.
