"Vixen"

1 of 12

"Ready" Second-year Vixen tight end and linebacker Melissa Cherry holds her position before the start of a practice drill at Lone Lake Park in Minnetonka, Minnesota on Wednesday, July 12, 2006. Since 1999, as a member of the Women's Professional Football League, the Minnesota Vixen Women's Football Club has been giving women from all walks of life the opportunity to play the game they love. Teams play full-contact football with the same rules as in men's football. The team, with about 28 players, practices and plays seven games between July and September. The women are hard-hitting and tough-talking. And, every new season is an opportunity for the women to learn more and sharpen their skills on the field.
