Jack Oren, 50 year resident of La Conchita south of Carpinteria, uses a garden hose to try and fight flames and save a neighbor's from the Thomas Fire early Thursday morning December 7th. Strong Santa Ana winds strengthened overnight, sending a 100-foot wall of fire into the subdivision adjacent to the 101 Freeway and the Pacific Ocean. Firefighters arrived on scene minutes later and managed to save the house. The fire burned 90,000 acres and destroyed an estimated 150 structures.
