"A YEAR AT WAR: COMING HOME"
On March 29, 2010 the men and women of the US Army 87th Infantry Battalion, 1st Combat Brigade, 10th Mountain Division deployed from their base in upstate New York for a year-long mission to Kunduz Province in Northern Afghanistan. The soldiers would soon find themselves battling an elusive enemy that most would never see as well as the tedium and monotony that for most would define their year deployed. This is the final chapter of their story, that began last year, as they finish their deployment and begin to come home. *** A soldier watches over a burn pit on forward operating base Kunduz where they destroy sensitive documents and correspondences days before leaving the country. |
