POYi Exhibition Opens at PhotoNOLA in New Orleans

Weekend Reception Hosts
"Visions of Excellence"
50-Print Display
in Historic French Quarter
at the Louisiana State Museum

Pictures of the Year International opened its 50-Print Traveling Exhibition, "Visions of Excellence," in New Orleans for PhotoNOLA on Dec. 13. The public reception was held at the Louisiana State Museum's Arsenal Gallery at the Cabildo, Jackson Square.

POYi-sponsored exhibitions serve to bring great documentary photography to a wide public audience. The goal is to extend the reach of photojournalists and impact citizens with the news events, cultural trends, and social issues facing our world. POYi offers its exhibits free as an educational outreach.

The Arsenal Gallery inside The Cabildo, a National Historic Landmark, will host the display through Jan. 31. The exhibit features 50 framed 18-inch by 24-inch premium photographic prints selected from the winning entries in the 65th annual photojournalism competition.

Now entering its third year, PhotoNOLA takes place each December at venues throughout the city and includes exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and portfolio review sessions.

The reception was graciously sponsored by the Friends of Cabildo, a volunteer group that provides support for the Louisiana State Museum.

"Visions of Excellence" is presented in collaboration with the New Orleans Photo Alliance, as part of PhotoNOLA 2008. The Photo Alliance is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to help rebuild the Gulf Coast's photographic community.

Visitors to POYi's opening reception review the award-winning images
by photojournalists from around the world.

Public exhibitions offer citizens an
opportunity to connect with the news events
and social issues of our time.

The POYi exhibit will be on display in the
historic Arensal Gallery through January 31.
