"Maria Gillespie" She was arrested at 15 tortures when the Uruguayan army seized power in 1973. Following the disappearance of her husband who was a trade unionist she was arrested. She was in prison for 18 months and interrogated regularly. Seeking information, that she did not know, about her husband and others, her army captors tortured her, including pulling out her teeth one at a time. Amnesty International became aware of her plight and were responsible for obtaining her release. She now lives in Liverpool, England.
