"Hidden Wounds (Scars from Waziristan)"
Islamabad, Pakistan, Nov 2013: Salman Khan, 20 years old student from Hisoori village, North Waziristan Agency. On 20/3/2011 he lost his father in a drone Attack. He was at home at the moment of the strike. His father was patecipating to a Girga, (gathering between tribal heads) when at 4:45pm the gathering was hit by the strike. When he heard the sound of the blast he immediately run out of his house and started running in direction of the smoke which was on his uncle house direction. Neighbors confirmed to him that his Uncle house was hit by a drone strike. He was stopped on the way by a line of tribal heads trying to keep people away from the site fearing that a new one could occurr is too many people started gathering in there. Only the day after he came to know that his father also lost his life in the attack but his body got so disfigured that he could not really recognise him. He was left alone with his mother and three younger sisters. They had to sell their shop in order to buy a little piece of land for farming. His area used to be heavely targeted by drones but now since 6 months the situatioation is more calm. He is very distressed and angry whith his own government which do nothing to stop these attacks and is not providing compensation to the victims.
Salman added that even people who is not directly involved in the attacks started suffering of several deseases like partial loss of eye sight, skin deseases, reproductive deseases. He suffered of skin deseases for one year. He had painfull pustules all over his body with an high concentration on his back as much as he was not able to sit.
He also spoken about the need for education which is affecting his areas also noticing that school often gets shut down because the fear of drones threat.
