"WATER IS PERSONAL"
NAKURU, KENYA, 11 DECEMBER 2009: Two women use donkeys to transport water from a concrete pool built with the help of community funding in a rural part of Kenya. The distance these women have to travel for water has been halved and their water is of a far higher quality as it travels through a natural filter system. This allow them time for other activities and a more active role in their community. Water is a gender issue, with women and girl children tasked with its daily collection world over. The amount of time this takes from their daily lives means they have no time for self-improvement, thus reinforcing a cycle of gender prejudice in rural communities worldwide.
