Despite being protected by national law, Brazilian
nut trees (Castanheiras) stand dead from a fire in the proposed Brazilian Nut
Tree Park (Parque das Castanheira) near Claudia in Mato Grosso, Brazil on
Sept. 17, 2007. During the dry season large sections of the Amazon Rainforest
are set on fire by farmers to clear the way for soy or cattle production.
