British Petroleum's self contained oil and gas facility at Endicott, Alaska, located eight miles east of Prudhoe Bay, is situated on a gravel island in the Beaufort Sea at the end of a 1 1/2 mile causway. North Slope residents fear a Prudhoe-style oil development in the Beauford Sea could threaten their traditional way of life.
